It operated from 1948 1975. In its heyday, it employed about 80 people. The pottery was started by Paul Harald Tilgmann (1904 1974). The pottery was very popular in the 1950s when it was managed by its artistic director, Marian Zawadzki (1912 1978). Zawadzki was a Polish refugee and started work at Tilgmans in 1953.
